(XV) Xserve-Virtual Mac OS X Leopard VPS server from Media Temple

(XV) Xserve-virtual

Earlier this month Media Temple announced that in partnership with Apple and Parallels they will be releasing virtual servers based on Apples Xserve hardware and Mac OS X Leopard Server software.

As a big Apple fan and Web developer I am really excited about this and can't wait to get my hands on one. Media Temple are currently going through a Private Beta test on the system which I have signed up for, I just hope I get selected.

Media Temple have pulled out all the stops with specification each XServe features: 2 x 2.8 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5400 series processors, 32GB 800MHz DDR2 ram, 3x300GB 15,000-rpm SAS with 16MB disk cache drives on a Xserve RAID Card and during the Private Beta period they intend on splitting the server in 1/8th partitions. Each virtual machine will be guaranteed 2GB of memory and two cores of CPU resources.

Media Temple are also working on Ubuntu virtual servers and their new (CS) Cluster server.

If you have been reading my blog for a while you will remember I used to host this site with Media Temple on their (GS) Grid Service but due to the amount of downtime I moved. I use Media Temple's (DV) Dedicated Virtual server in work and am very happy with it, but I found a much cheaper UK based service for this site and so far am very happy, but as long as the price is right I will move to Media Temple's (XV) Xserve-virtual in a flash.
