Manipulating PDFs with PHP

As part of a project in work I have been looking into the manipulation of PDFs using PHP. I am looking to create a system within drupal to allow multiple PDFs to be merged into one whilst adding custom titles, section headings and contents pages.

SetaSign offer many many solutions to manipulate and merge PDFs using PHP. I hope I can work these into a Drupal module so a user can select the Nodes the PDFs are attached to, input the data they want to appear on their title pages and output a PDF book.

As another project I plan to create another module to allow users upload different documents (.doc, .xls, .ppt), the module will then convert these to PDFs and attach them to nodes. A title and description about the file can be added to the node. It would be great to get this conversion and attachment to nodes working with CCK and Views.
