July, 2008

Today I have been playing around with Drupal themeing. I used Raincity's Basic theme (http://drupal.org/project/basic) as a starting block, it is based upon Zen theme, and seems a little easier to customise. With only one hours work I was able to come up with what you see now.

I hope to customise it a bit more ove the next week, but as a developer and not a designer it takes me a little longer to work out what looks good and what doesn't.

One thing I can't seem to get working is the primary links. I'm not sure why but they arn't displaying. That's another thing to look into this week.

Over the last week I have found out about so many cool apps that can be installed on a Jailbroken iPhone such as mobile terminal and nes emulator. So I thought I would follow the tutorial on Lifehacker (http://tinyurl.com/5os854) and Jailbreak my iPhone.

Well... it didn't go to plan!

Firstly, the tutorial said to download bootloaders and the PwnageTool will ask for them. When I tried it, I did download the bootloaders but the PwnageTool did not ask for them.

Secondly, I used a third party iPod cable and not the original iPhone cable.

As you may or may not notice there is a new block on the site (bottom left). It is a new little widget from BlogUpp! to help blog promotion.

Here's how it works, after ending your URL on their site and adding their widget to you site an advert for your blog will appear on other BlogUpp! user's sites. Simple.

I was bored for a couple of hours this weekend and started to wonder if a microblogging site in Drupal.

There are now quite a few microblogging sites online such as Twitter, Jaiku, Pownce and Plurk. I am a heavy user of Twitter as you can see from the right hand column of this site, but with all the network problems and downtime it is having can I make the follow up.

Can I do to Twitter what Facebook did to Myspace?

So I started work on http://www.foocity.com, and after 2 hours work, things look hopeful!

App Store on my Macbook Pro taken on my iPhone

Today Apple released their App Store for the iPhone. The App Store can be accessed via the iPhone or iTunes and is the only place Apple is allowing users to download iPhone Apps. I guess this is a good thing because you know where everything is and it stops crap and viruses getting in, but it does stop the cool hacky software, although if you do want cool hacky software other cool hacky iPhone things can be done elsewhere.

If you frequently read my blog you may remember I was writing an article for Naked Wales about Drupal.

Well the web based magazine has now been released and my article can be found within.

I have attached the magazine for your reading pleasure, hope you all enjoy!

Today I have been playing with the Twitter API. If you see all the images in the block on the right, that is all my Twitter friends feed live via the API. If you can't see the images in the block on the right, it means either Twitter is down or I have made to many request this hour.
